Our job is to listen, feel, smell, observe. As Danny Gregory says: "Being in the here and now means brushing away the fabricated veil, dealing only with what actually is."

Much of what passes for "creative work" is nothing more than what some self-anointed "creative" has pre-determined they want the project to look, feel or act like. This work rarely reflects any real attention to the project at hand. Instead it's some "correct" version based on current style rather than paying attention to the needs and merits of the subject. To listen to the underlying story.

So, our manifesto? Our principals? Our policies? Our intention?

Fine: Our job is to remain as courageous and open-minded in creation of our work as we were when we chose a creative life and to always be compelling.

Past and Present

John originally started August Hour Productions in 1998 as an audio production and recording studio in Kansas City Missouri. August Hour combined analog production techniques with digital recording technology to expand creativity and experimentation in audio production. John's credo is and was simple: "The work is what counts; egos, fears, everything else is secondary." Over the years it was this dedication to the clients' project that earned the John and his company a reputation as creative, risk-taking, and uncompromising in pursuit of the clients' ends.

In 2002 August Hour Productions expanded into full-motion video production, cinematography, analog illustration and graphic design. The aim remains to put the work first, in order to further imagination and quality across all media.
